Coffee help, I bought a Small Coffee Maker 4 c and my coffee tastes awful. I am not sure if the coffee I had?

was old, but I know since until now never drank coffee. How do I make good coffee, and what is the Best Coffee to buy. I am using the brown filters because they seem to make the coffee taste bette, not sure if that is right, and I used Gourmet Folgers but I am sure I had for it 2 years unopened. Pls help nasty coffee in my coffee cup. I did use splendid and store brand creamer also. Looking for that deli best coffee
My coffee maker is new and made by Mr Coffee, it also came with a cute black scoop which I used. I put four scoops in the 4 cup coffee maker and I used cold spring water from my spring water cooler I rent. Maybe it’s the old Folgers Coffee, or because I used cold water. Not sure but it tastes blah
